  • cherished dreams of glory

This month allowed for a break in the work schedule, so we headed north for a while to witness a wedding and bask in the bounties of our relationships with friends and family alike. Brooklyn, Maine, then Brooklyn again, then off to North Carolina, and returning back to Austin. This trip brought a renewal in energy for me to continue creating and making my little business grow grow grow. The time away was exactly what I needed, and it was exactly what we needed. I live for the days dedicated to celebrating and expressing my gratitudes for life, but the more...

  • Quality Time

I have to share with you a wonderful secret spot east of Austin, the lower Colorado River. I adore it. I want to go again and again. The Colorado is a long, wide, slow-moving river with plenty of scenery to capture your eye. This past Saturday Chap and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary with a lovely canoe ride. We woke up with the sun, grabbed some tacos, and got on the river by 8. We had it all to ourselves for hours. It was quiet and cool in the morning. The sounds of birds and aquatic life filled the air, it almost felt wrong...

  • Nui Shibori: Stitch Resist

I made this stitched resist rabbit many years ago, but I still love it so. Nui shibori includes stitched shibori. A simple running stitch is used on the cloth then pulled tight to gather the cloth before submerging in a dye pot. Stitching affords flexibility and control to create designs of great variety, delicate or bold, simple or complex, pictorial or abstract. This technique allows for greater control of the pattern and greater variety of pattern, but it is much more time consuming.  mokume shibori also known as woodgrain

  • Featured on the Free People Blog

Fun fact: My first job out of college was at the Urban Outfitter HQ in Philly as "Creative Assistant" for Free People. It has almost been seven years since I worked there, and today I am the featured artist on the Free People Blog! I highly value the experience I gained from working there, and what I know now is life had much more to offer me. To be frank, it wasn't easy being on the bottom of a corporate ladder, even if it was a "cool" job. My confidence was crushed when I left, and it took some time for...

  • Folk Fibers Quilts at Levis Malibu Store

The quilts have arrived at the Levi's Malibu Store, and it feels SO good! It's a privilege to partner with Levi's, I have only great things to say about my experience. I am especially blown away with the spirit and teamwork happening over at Levi's Malibu store. Weeks before these three quilts were completed I received a message from Nick Osika, who has been the manager of the store since it opened 7 years ago. Nick expressed his excitement for the quilts to arrive and from then on out, he and the others at the Malibu store have been so supportive and helpful. If you...

  • guided by hunger

We drove out to Sonoma Valley... guided by our hunger to explore our surroundings, and our desire to eat at the Fremont Diner. As we got further away from the Bay and closer to the Valley my surroundings began to remind me of the Hampton's.  Maybe it was the sense that the country road was sprinkled with signs of upper class citizens.  Regardless, the view was pastoral, with rolling fields and abundant vineyards.  We found ourselves happy and full without a plan. I appreciate the laid back approach we all had for letting the day unfold, as it will. We decided to seek out a winery....

  • Folk Fibers Quilts for Levis Made Here

I am very excited to announce that I am making quilts for Levis!  You may have noticed a little lull in my online presents over the last couple of weeks. This was all due to my gusto and focus on getting a series of quilts designed and crafted for Levis - Made Here Stores. Made Here is a project created and run by Jay Carroll, a concept designer for Levis. Made Here are special Levis stores that deliver a bespoke interpretation of the Levi’s® brand. A meaningful component of the Made Here store is the initiative to sell beautiful objects...
