Pieced together with large rectangles of vintage florals and solid browns. The backside is made with a whole cloth of brown vintage linen. Entirely hand quilted with shashiko thread in a traditional japanese pattern called Hishi-Seigaiha, which means "diamond shaped waves". Finished with a natural cotton batting, and framed with hand-stitched double-fold binding.
The four pieced rectangles represent Connecticut's rural areas and small towns in the northeast and northwest corners of the state, and the light and dark colors symbolize how they contrast sharply with its industrial cities.
Connecticut is the seventh crib quilt in my 50 American States Series. The design and colors are inspired by an Abstract American quilt from the 1970's.
