Idaho Quilt
-
Naturally dyed linen using pomegranates harvest in Austin, Texas.
Hand quilted in Austin with japanese sashiko thread and the loving help of my friend Monica Loring.
Hand finished with the linen from the same dye lot. The double-binding is folded over creating a durable edge and mitered corners.
90 inches x 90 inches Fits oversized on a queen size bed, or lightly draped on a king size bed, can also be hung as a work of art.
The X design was inspired by the mountainous state of Idaho.
The Idaho nickname is the "Gem State", because nearly every known type of gemstone has been found there. In addition, Idaho is one of only two places in the world where star garnets can be found in any significant quantities, the other being India. Sometimes called the "Potato State" the natural russet colors in the patchwork is achieved with the fruit of the pomegranate tree, harvest here in austin, Texas. There is an intentional shift in color tone created from using a few different pomegranate dye baths. The dye baths were sorted by categorizing the ripeness of the fruit such as green, ripe and putrid.
