Fine dress wool, and cottons, all pieced together in a classic 9 block quilt pattern. Entirely hand quilted with pure cotton Japanese Sashiko thread, natural cotton batting, and framed with a hand-stitched binding.
The red cross stitches represent the Heart of Dixie where traditions and legacies of the Antebellum South live strongly. This primitive yet modern quilt has an independent quality that feels as free as a yeoman farmer.
This is the first quilt in my 50 American States Series. The design and colors are inspired by an abstract Amish quilt from the early 1900's.
