Alaska Quilt
-
Cottons used to make this quilt are a combination of vintage prints and naturally dyed solid colors. The variegated pink and browns colors are the result of red onion skins. The warm grays are a result of black walnut hulls. Entirely hand quilted with cotton Japanese Sashiko thread, natural cotton batting, and framed with hand-stitched double-fold binding.
Pieced together in a topsy-turvy flag-like pattern, resembling Alaskas small towns and Native villages scattered throughout the uninhabited wilderness. The abstract backside is pieced using soft cotton flannel. The pastel pink and blue colors create a fun mixture suited perfectly for a baby boy and baby girl.
Alaska is the second crib quilt in the 50 American States Series. Inspired by an Abstract American Quilt made in the 1800's. This quilt will become an instant family heirloom.
