Arkansas Quilt
-
Repurposed denim fabrics are contrasted in a courthouse steps pattern creating an architectural look that visually draws you in. The backside is a whole cloth of striped vintage mattress ticking. Machine pieced and entirely hand quilted with pure cotton Japanese Sashiko thread, natural cotton batting, and framed with hand-stitched double-fold binding.
The contrast between light and dark denim represents Arkansas split in geography; the highlands in the northwest half and the lowlands of the southeastern half.
Arkansas is the fourth quilt in my 50 American States Series. The design and colors are inspired by an Abstract American quilt from the late 1800's.
