California Quilt
-
New and vintage cottons come together in a bold strip quilt style. The bright modern color palette is softened with subtle accent strips, a select few are naturally dyed with onion skins. Entirely hand quilted with Japanese Sashiko thread, natural cotton batting, and framed with a hand-stitched double-fold binding.
The long strips of color represent California's Central Valley, located next to the long California coastline. Minimal collage of similar hues join together in a painterly manner. The binding is made with a vintage teal floral "peter pan fabric", that seems to soften the overall bright colors.
This is the fifth quilt in my 50 American States Series. The design and colors are inspired by an abstract Amish quilt from the late 1800's.
